Know the home, know the fault
The housing mix across Exeter ranges from medieval, Tudor and Georgian architecture to modern developments built for an expanding population. The city is positioned on a river that widens into a floodplain and estuary before reaching the sea, while benefiting from a climate somewhat sheltered by the rain shadow of Dartmoor. In these busy environments, a fridge freezer works hard. Integrated models are sometimes fitted into older properties, while large American-style units are chosen for newer kitchens. Regardless of the setting, a unit that stops cooling properly disrupts daily food storage. When a fridge freezer develops a fault, the symptoms usually point to specific internal components. If the fridge section feels warm while the freezer remains freezing cold, the issue might be a failed evaporator fan failing to circulate chilled air, or a blocked defrost system restricting airflow between the two compartments. Frost and solid ice build-up inside the cabinet suggest a problem with the defrost heater or the defrost timer. Water pooling under the salad crisper drawers or leaking onto the floor is another issue, usually caused by a blocked internal drainage channel. You might also notice noisy running from a struggling compressor motor, or faulty temperature controls that fail to regulate the internal climate. During a visit, we look at the entire cooling system, check for hidden ice blockages, test the circulation fans and inspect the main control boards. We repair freestanding, integrated and American-style fridge freezers directly in your home. We also repair washing machines, electric ovens and dishwashers, though we do not work on gas appliances.

Call 01752 922765This happens when cold air from the freezer cannot reach the fridge compartment. It is usually caused by a failed evaporator fan or a heavy build-up of ice blocking the air vents between the two sections. A faulty defrost heater or thermostat can also create these ice blockages over time.
Water pooling at the bottom of the fridge is typically caused by a blocked defrost drain. During the normal cooling cycle, condensation drips down the back wall and exits through a small drainage hole. If food particles or debris block this hole, the water overflows and collects under the drawers.
A frost-free freezer relies on a heating element to melt away ice before it accumulates. If thick ice appears, the defrost heater, the defrost timer, or the control board might have failed. A damaged door seal letting warm room air inside can also cause rapid and excessive frost formation.
