Know the home, know the fault
A rapidly growing urban centre in the South West features a wide mix of housing, from properties with medieval, Tudor, and Georgian architecture to the modern builds in the new town of Cranbrook. With a large student population across two university campuses and a steady flow of domestic tourists, kitchens in the area see heavy use. An electric range cooker is a substantial appliance that caters well to large households or shared student accommodation. Because these cookers have multiple cavities and extensive heating elements, they require a stable power supply and adequate ventilation, especially when fitted into older, historic properties where kitchen layouts might not have been originally designed for such large modern appliances. When a large cooking appliance fails, it can disrupt meal preparation for the whole house. A main or secondary oven not heating points to a blown fan element or a faulty thermal cut-out. If the appliance trips the electrics, the cause is a degraded heating element where the internal insulation has broken down, allowing moisture to bridge the electrical connections. Grill and hob faults on electric and induction models involve unresponsive touch controls, failed energy regulators, or damaged induction coils. Thermostats can also drift out of calibration, causing the oven to burn food or fail to reach the required temperature. We only work on electric and induction cooking appliances, meaning we do not repair gas cookers, gas hobs, or any gas equipment. During a visit, we inspect the electric range cooker in your home to identify the exact fault. We look at the main and secondary ovens, test the grill and hob functions, and check the condition of the controls, fans, and thermostats. If the appliance is tripping the power, we test the internal wiring and elements for earth faults.

Call 01752 922765This happens when a heating element develops an earth fault. Over time, the internal insulation inside the element can degrade, allowing the electrical current to short to the metal casing. We can test the main oven, secondary oven, and grill elements to find out which one is causing the trip.
A main oven that blows cold air but still has a working fan and light points to a failed fan element. The element sits behind a panel at the back of the cavity and can burn out through normal use. A faulty thermostat or thermal cut-out can also prevent heating.
Flashing errors on an induction hob indicate a fault detected by the internal control board. This can be caused by overheating, a communication failure between the touch controls and the power board, or a damaged induction coil. We inspect the hob components to determine which part has failed.
