Know the home, know the fault
Properties along this part of the Tor Bay coast range from historic Victorian builds around Church Street and Palace Avenue to modern holiday accommodation. With an economy heavily focused on family holidays and tourism, many kitchens here see heavy seasonal use. In self-catering lets and family homes alike, built-in and combination microwaves are relied upon for quick meals. A broken microwave in a busy holiday property or a bustling household creates immediate frustration, especially when it is integrated into the kitchen cabinetry and cannot simply be swapped out for a basic countertop replacement. When a combination microwave stops heating but still sounds like it is running, the issue is a failure within the high-voltage components, such as the magnetron, capacitor or diode. Turntables that refuse to rotate point to a failed synchronous motor beneath the cavity floor or a broken drive coupling. Door latches and microswitches take a lot of physical punishment from being repeatedly slammed shut. If these switches fail or fall out of alignment, the appliance will not start at all, as a built-in safety mechanism prevents operation when the door is perceived to be open. Control panels and digital displays can also degrade over time, leaving the unit completely unresponsive to inputs. We repair built-in and combination microwaves in your home. During a repair, we examine models that run but do not heat, turntables that will not turn, and unresponsive controls or displays. We also investigate door latch and switch faults to get the appliance working again. Please note that our cooking appliance repairs are strictly for electric and induction models, as we do not work on gas appliances of any kind.

Call 01752 922765A turntable that will not turn is caused by a faulty synchronous motor located under the floor of the microwave cavity. It can also be the result of a broken plastic drive coupling or a damaged roller ring. We inspect these drive components to find out why the glass plate is no longer rotating.
When a microwave runs but does not heat, the fault is located in the high-voltage circuit. This involves components like the magnetron, the high-voltage diode, or the capacitor. Because these parts retain a dangerous electrical charge even when the appliance is unplugged, they require a professional engineer to discharge and test them.
This happens when the door microswitches fail or the latch mechanism breaks. Microwaves have multiple interlock switches designed to cut the power if the door is open. If a switch is broken or knocked out of alignment by heavy use, the control board assumes the door is open and prevents operation.
