Know the home, know the fault
This seaside town on the coast of Tor Bay expanded from a small fishing settlement, eventually merging with nearby Preston and Goodrington. The historic centre features Victorian architecture, while the local economy leans heavily on family holidays and tourism. This means the housing mix includes permanent residences alongside a wide variety of holiday accommodation. In a holiday let, an electric oven might face intense use from different guests who are unfamiliar with the controls, which can lead to accidental damage to dials or door hinges. In permanent homes, ovens handle the daily routine of family meals, accumulating wear on internal components over time. When an electric oven stops working as it should, the issue is usually isolated to a few specific parts. If the appliance turns on but produces no heat, or only heats on certain settings, a failed element is a likely cause. Fan ovens rely on a circular element surrounding a fan motor to distribute heat evenly. If the fan fails or the element breaks, cooking becomes uneven. Another issue is when the appliance trips the electrics, which happens when internal degradation causes a short circuit within a heating element. Physical wear also affects the door, where degraded seals let heat escape, or strained hinges prevent the door from closing flush against the cavity. Our domestic appliance repair business is based in Plymouth. We visit homes across the area, including properties around the Hookhills estate, to repair electric ovens. Our visits cover ovens that will not heat, uneven cooking issues, fan oven faults, and appliances that trip the power supply. We assess problems with door hinges, seals and glass, alongside faulty thermostats, controls and clocks. We only work on electric and induction cooking appliances, so we do not repair gas cookers, gas hobs or any gas appliance.

Call 01752 922765When a fan oven blows cold air, the circular heating element surrounding the fan has usually failed. The fan motor continues to circulate air, but without a working element, no heat is generated. The thermostat or a faulty selector switch can also cause this issue by failing to send power to the element.
An electric oven trips the power when a component causes a short circuit or an earth fault. This happens when the internal insulation of a heating element degrades, allowing electrical current to reach the outer casing. A faulty fan motor, damaged wiring or a broken selector switch can also trip your electrics.
An oven door that will not close flush usually has worn or strained hinges. The hinge mechanisms bear the weight of the door and can bend if leaned upon. A degraded or loose rubber door seal can also obstruct the closure, allowing heat to escape and causing the appliance to cook unevenly.
