Know the home, know the fault
Domestic laundry setups vary considerably across this highly urbanised parish, positioned just to the south-west of a large moorland area. As one of the oldest settlements in Cornwall, recorded back in the eleventh century, the housing stock spans many eras. Alongside historic properties, there are neighbourhoods experiencing significant deprivation where household budgets are stretched, making appliance maintenance a practical alternative to replacement. The recent addition of a new college campus near a local supermarket also brings a student population. In busy households or shared student accommodation, a tumble dryer handles heavy loads, placing substantial strain on its internal components. When a dryer stops functioning properly, the symptoms usually point to specific mechanical or electrical failures. A machine that runs but produces no heat typically has a blown thermal overload cut-out or a failed heater element. If the drum refuses to turn while the motor can be heard running, the drive belt has likely snapped or slipped off its pulleys. Noisy running indicates worn support rollers, degraded bearings, or a failing motor. Condenser models rely on a pump to move extracted moisture into the water container, and blockages or pump failures here will cause the cycle to halt prematurely. During a visit, we look at dryers that will not heat, turn, or finish a cycle. Our diagnostics cover machines that stop mid-cycle or will not start at all, alongside condenser and water container faults. We also investigate noisy running to identify failing bearings or belts. We repair electric tumble dryers in your home, though we do not work on gas appliances.

Call 01752 922765A dryer that turns but stays cold usually has an issue with its heating circuit. This is a situation where we look at the heater element itself, as well as the thermal overload cut-outs. If a thermostat trips or the element burns out, the machine will continue to tumble the clothes without actually drying them.
If you can hear the motor running but the drum remains stationary, the drive belt has almost certainly snapped or stretched. We also look at the motor capacitor, which provides the initial power to start the rotation. A failed capacitor means the motor hums but cannot physically turn the heavy drum.
Condenser dryers pump extracted water up into a container. If the pump fails, or if fluff blocks the hoses, the water cannot drain away. A float switch inside the machine detects this build-up and halts the cycle to prevent flooding. We inspect the pump, hoses, and condenser unit to resolve this fault.
