Know the home, know the fault

Fowey sits at the entrance to a large flooded valley, with a history stretching back before the Norman invasion. Today, tourism provides more than half the jobs in the area, and several entertainers maintain primary or secondary residences nearby. In a busy holiday let or a heavily used family home, a tumble dryer might run multiple times a day to process towels and bedding. When a machine is used heavily, lint filters and condenser units need regular clearing to maintain airflow and prevent the appliance from overheating and shutting down. Restricted airflow is a primary reason why a dryer might run but fail to heat. If the internal thermostats detect excessive temperatures due to a blocked filter or a clogged heat exchanger, they trip to cut power to the heating element. Another fault involves drums that will not turn. This points to a snapped drive belt, a failed motor capacitor, or a worn tension pulley. When a machine stops mid-cycle or refuses to start, the issue could be a faulty door switch or a full water container in a condenser model. Noisy running indicates worn support rollers or bearings at the rear of the drum. We travel out to repair domestic appliances in local homes, covering the town itself and nearby places like Readymoney. During a visit, we look at machines that will not heat, turn, or finish a cycle. We trace electrical faults, inspect condenser and water container systems, and replace worn mechanical parts. Please note that we repair electric appliances only and do not work on gas cookers, gas hobs, or any gas appliance.

A tumble dryer that turns but produces no heat has a tripped thermostat or a failed heating element. Thermostats trip when the machine overheats, which happens when blocked lint filters or clogged condenser units restrict the internal airflow. We test the heating circuit and replace the faulty electrical components.

If you hear the motor running but the drum remains still, the drive belt has snapped or slipped off the tension pulley. If the machine is completely silent when you press start, the motor capacitor might have failed, or a faulty door switch could be preventing the cycle from beginning.

Water leaks on condenser models happen when the internal pump fails to send condensed water up to the collection drawer. The water then overflows from the bottom tray. A blockage in the condenser unit itself or a cracked water container will also cause puddles to form underneath the machine.
