Know the home, know the fault
Newer housing developments have been completed or planned on the outskirts in areas like Hele Park and Wolborough Barton, aiming to add thousands of homes. A freestanding electric cooker is a practical choice across these different properties, offering an oven, grill and hob in a single unit. In a narrow terrace kitchen, a slimline model might fit neatly between cupboards, while a larger modern kitchen might have space for a wider twin-cavity appliance.
Why electric cookers go wrong
What we look for
When an electric cooker stops working properly, the issue can affect the oven, the grill or the hob on top. A fan oven that blows cold air points to a failed heating element, while a hob ring that will not heat up might have a faulty energy regulator switch or a broken radiant coil. Sometimes the appliance trips the electrics when turned on, which indicates an earth leak in one of the internal components. Door hinges can wear out over time, stopping the oven from sealing correctly and letting heat escape. We only work on electric and induction cooking appliances, so we do not repair gas cookers or gas hobs.

When we visit
From your call to repaired
Visiting a property in Highweek or another part of Newton Abbot involves checking the appliance in its normal position in the kitchen. We test the controls, switches and internal wiring to find out why a hob zone is not heating or what is causing the main power to trip. By inspecting the heating elements, thermostats and door catches, the faulty component can be identified. Whether the cooker is a basic solid-plate model or has a ceramic top, the repair takes place entirely in your home.

Call 01752 922765This happens when the fan is turning but the circular heating element surrounding it has failed. The oven thermostat tells the cooker to heat up, but the broken element cannot generate any warmth. Replacing the faulty element restores the heat, and the repair is carried out in your home.
A cooker will trip the circuit breaker or RCD if there is an electrical short or an earth leak. Moisture inside a heating element or a melted wire touching the metal casing will cause this safety mechanism to activate. We test the internal wiring and components to locate the fault.
A single hob ring failing to heat up is caused by a broken radiant element under the glass or a faulty solid hotplate. It can also happen if the control switch behind the knob has burnt out. We check the switch and the ring itself to find the broken part.
