Know the home, know the fault
A freestanding electric cooker is a practical choice for many kitchens, combining an oven, grill and hob in a single unit. Because these appliances handle baking, roasting and boiling, they draw a significant amount of power. Over time, the intense heat cycles take a toll on internal components. When an electric cooker stops working properly, the issue is usually isolated to a specific section. A main oven that fails to heat up while the fan still spins points to a blown heating element. If a solid plate or radiant ring on the hob stays cold, the element itself or the energy regulator switch behind the control knob has likely failed. Faulty switches or degraded wiring can also cause the appliance to trip the household electrics when a particular zone is turned on. Door hinges and seals degrade through normal use, letting heat escape and causing uneven baking temperatures. We do not work on gas cookers or any gas appliances, focusing entirely on electric models. During a repair visit, we look at oven and grill heating faults, hob rings or zones not heating, cookers that trip the electrics, and issues with controls, switches and doors. We also cover nearby locations such as Callington, Saltash and Looe.

Call 01752 922765A cooker will trip the electrics if there is a short circuit or an earth leak. This happens when moisture gets into a heating element, or when internal wiring degrades and touches the metal casing. A faulty selector switch or a failing terminal block at the back of the appliance can also cause the breaker to trip.
If the fan operates but the oven stays cold, the circular heating element surrounding the fan blade has likely failed. The element degrades over time through repeated heating and cooling cycles until the internal wire breaks. Replacing the faulty element restores the heat, allowing the oven to bake and roast normally again.
A cold solid plate usually means the internal element within the ring has burned out. Alternatively, the energy regulator switch behind the control knob might have failed, preventing power from reaching the plate. We inspect the hob rings, zones and switches to trace where the circuit is broken. We do not repair gas hobs.
