Know the home, know the fault
A washing machine in an agricultural household works hard to remove heavy soil from clothing, especially with Bodmin Moor lying to the north-west and a local history of livestock farming. Heavy loads of thick outdoor workwear place significant strain on the drum bearings and suspension systems. Washing heavy, wet fabrics puts extra pressure on the motor and drive belt during the wash cycle. When a machine struggles to drain, the issue is sometimes a blockage in the pump filter or the waste hose. Mud and grit from outdoor clothing can wash into the sump and obstruct the pump impeller. If the appliance fails to spin, the motor carbon brushes might be worn down, or the control board may have detected an unbalanced load. Leaks can develop around the door seal when sharp objects left in pockets pierce the rubber, or when internal hoses degrade over time. A door that refuses to open at the end of a cycle points to a faulty interlock mechanism or water remaining in the drum. During a visit, we look at draining, spinning, filling and heating faults. We investigate leaks from seals, hoses and the pump area, alongside door locks and doors that will not open or close. We also diagnose machines that trip the electrics, show error codes, or have noisy drums and excessive vibration on spin. We repair appliances in customers' homes.

Call 01752 922765Excessive vibration on spin is sometimes caused by a machine resting on an uneven floor, which prevents the feet from balancing the appliance. Inside the cabinet, the suspension legs or springs that hold the drum in place can wear out. Worn drum bearings also create severe vibration and a loud rumbling noise.
A machine that will not drain might have a blockage in the pump filter, the internal sump hose, or the waste pipe connection under the sink. Small items like coins or hair grips can bypass the drum and jam the drain pump impeller, stopping the water from being pumped out.
Tripping the electrics points to an electrical short or an earth fault within the appliance. This happens when water leaks onto electrical components like the motor or wiring harness. A faulty heating element is another possible cause, as the internal insulation degrades and exposes the live element to the water.
