Know the home, know the fault
The town grew significantly during the pre-twentieth century tin mining boom, and its strong agricultural roots meant regular livestock markets were held here until recently. Whether a kitchen is in a historic terrace or a newer build, electric ovens are a standard fixture. Built-in electric ovens are fitted into tall cabinets or under counters. We repair these electric cooking appliances, though we do not work on gas cookers, gas hobs or any gas appliance. An electric oven that will not heat up usually has a failed element. In a fan oven, the circular element around the fan blade can break down, leaving the appliance blowing cold air while the indicator light stays on. If the oven trips the electrics, it is sometimes due to the internal insulation of a heating element degrading, or a faulty thermostat. Uneven cooking might point to a broken fan motor failing to circulate hot air, or a damaged door seal letting heat escape. Door hinges can also weaken over time, preventing the glass door from closing tightly. When a door hangs open slightly, escaping heat can cause the control knobs or digital clock to overheat. During a visit, we look at ovens that will not heat or only work on certain functions, such as the grill working but the main oven remaining cold. We check faulty thermostats, controls and clocks, alongside door hinges, seals and glass. We also investigate uneven cooking, fan oven faults and appliances that trip the power when switched on.

Call 01752 922765This usually happens in a fan oven when the circular heating element fails. The fan motor continues to spin and circulate air, but because the element is broken, the air remains cold. The thermostat and indicator lights may still function normally. Replacing the faulty element resolves the heating issue.
An oven will trip the electrics if there is an electrical short, which is sometimes caused by a degraded heating element. As elements age, their internal insulation can break down, allowing moisture to enter or the internal wire to touch the outer casing. Faulty thermostats or damaged wiring can also cause tripping.
Yes, if the door hinges are worn or the seal is damaged, the door will not close completely. This allows intense heat to escape from the top of the oven cavity directly onto the control panel. Over time, this escaping heat can melt plastic control knobs and damage the digital clock.
