Know the home, know the fault
In older houses, kitchens might have been adapted into existing spaces, while newer builds often feature purpose-built cooking areas. Whatever the layout, a cooker hood is relied upon to extract steam and cooking smells. When an extractor stops pulling air or the lights fail, cooking becomes less pleasant, especially in open-plan spaces or smaller rooms where ventilation is limited. Extractor hoods rely on a motor to draw air through filters and push it outside or recirculate it. A fan that will not run or has lost suction might have a failed motor or a blocked grease filter restricting the airflow. Noisy or vibrating motors usually point to worn bearings or an impeller that has become unbalanced by a build-up of cooking fats. Lights and switches that have failed are another issue, sometimes caused by blown bulbs, but often the result of a faulty control board or a damaged switch mechanism that needs replacing. Whether a repair is needed near the town centre or out towards Lux Park, we visit customers in their homes to inspect the appliance. We look at fans that will not run or have lost suction, investigate noisy or vibrating motors, and check lights and switches that have failed. Please note that we only repair electric cooking appliances and do not work on gas cookers or gas hobs.

Call 01752 922765A loud vibrating noise from an extractor hood usually indicates an issue with the motor or the fan impeller. Over time, cooking grease can build up unevenly on the fan blades, causing the impeller to become unbalanced. Worn motor bearings will also cause excessive noise and vibration when the fan is running.
If replacing the bulbs does not fix the issue, the fault might lie within the light switch mechanism or the main control board. The wiring connecting the lights to the controls can also degrade due to heat and moisture from cooking. We can inspect the switches and wiring to locate the electrical fault.
Poor suction is frequently caused by saturated grease filters or blocked carbon filters restricting the airflow. If the filters are clean but the extractor still fails to draw air, the motor itself might be failing or the fan impeller could be loose. We check the motor, fan, and filters during a visit.
