Know the home, know the fault

When a wine cooler is installed in an older property, uneven floors can sometimes cause the unit to sit at a slight angle, which affects the door seal and allows warm air to enter. In newer homes, built-in chillers are usually integrated into fitted kitchens, where adequate ventilation at the rear is necessary to prevent the compressor from overheating. Being situated near the edge of Bodmin Moor means ambient room temperatures can drop during winter, and a wine cooler kept in an unheated utility space might struggle to maintain the correct internal climate if it lacks a winter heating function. In dual-zone models, it is possible for one zone to fail while the other continues to work, which usually points to a fault with a specific evaporator fan or a faulty temperature sensor in that compartment. Condensation and misting on the glass door indicate that the internal humidity is too high, or that the magnetic door gasket has degraded and is letting ambient air bypass the seal. Control faults can also occur, where the digital display becomes unresponsive or shows error codes, preventing the appliance from regulating the compressor cycles correctly. When inspecting a faulty wine cooler in your home, we look at the control boards, test the internal fans, and check the compressor to find out why it is not cooling. We also examine the door seals for gaps that cause misting, and test the sensors in dual-zone units to restore the correct storage conditions.

Misting on the door usually means warm room air is entering the chilled cabinet. This happens when the magnetic door gasket becomes split, flattened, or dirty, preventing a tight seal. It can also occur if the appliance is not levelled correctly, causing the door to hang slightly open. We inspect the hinges and replace damaged seals.

Dual-zone models use separate fans and sensors to manage the temperature in each compartment. If one zone fails while the other works, the issue is isolated to that specific section. A broken evaporator fan will stop cold air from circulating, or a faulty thermistor might fail to tell the control board that cooling is required.

A compressor that runs continuously is trying to compensate for a lack of cooling. This can be caused by a build-up of dust on the condenser coils at the back, restricting airflow. It might also point to a failing compressor, a faulty temperature sensor, or a main control board issue that is not regulating the cooling cycles.
