Know the home, know the fault
In a former agricultural market centre where regional farmers still supply vegetable processors, kitchens see heavy daily use. Freestanding electric cookers are relied upon to prepare family meals from scratch, meaning their internal heating elements, hob zones and control switches endure constant wear as they heat up and cool down each day. When a freestanding cooker stops working as expected, the issue is usually isolated to a specific component. If an oven or grill fails to heat up while the fan still turns, a blown heating element is a likely cause. Solid hotplates or radiant rings on the hob can also burn out over time, leaving a cooking zone completely cold. Sometimes, a faulty selector switch prevents the appliance from turning on, or degraded door hinges stop the oven from closing properly, allowing heat to escape into the kitchen. Internal wiring faults or a failing element can even cause the cooker to trip the household electrics when switched on. Whether an electric cooker repair is needed in the centre or out towards Kelly Bray, we investigate freestanding appliances with oven, grill or hob faults in your home. Our visits cover checking hob rings or zones that are not heating, diagnosing cookers that trip the power, and inspecting controls, switches and door mechanisms. Please note that our repairs are for electric and induction cooking appliances only, as we do not work on gas cookers or any gas equipment.

Call 01752 922765A cooker will trip the household electrics if there is an earth fault. This happens when an internal component, such as a heating element in the oven or a ring on the hob, develops a break in its insulation. Faulty selector switches or damaged internal wiring can also cause a short circuit that trips the breaker.
If the oven fan is spinning and the indicator lights are on but there is no heat, the main heating element has likely failed. Elements degrade over time through normal cooking cycles until the internal wire breaks. A faulty thermostat or a broken selector switch can also prevent the element from receiving power.
When a single solid hotplate or radiant zone fails to heat, the element itself has normally burnt out. If the element is intact, the issue might be a faulty energy regulator behind the control knob, which controls the power sent to that specific ring. We inspect these components during a visit.
