Know the home, know the fault
The port town of Fowey sits at the entrance of a flooded valley, forming a large natural harbour on the south Cornwall coast. The settlement has existed since before the Norman invasion, and today tourism provides more than half the local jobs. This means the housing mix includes primary residences alongside holiday lets and secondary homes owned by people including several entertainers. In properties left unoccupied for periods between visits, a fridge freezer might be switched off or left running empty. This changes how the compressor cycles and can affect the longevity of the rubber door seals if they dry out. When a combined refrigeration unit develops a fault, it is usually a problem with the automatic defrost system or the internal airflow. Frost and ice build-up in the freezer compartment points to a failed defrost heater, a blown thermal fuse, or a faulty sensor. If the fridge section feels warm while the freezer still works, the fan that blows cold air between the two compartments might be blocked by ice or have a burnt-out motor. Water leaking inside the cabinet or pooling onto the floor usually happens when the defrost drain tube becomes clogged with debris, causing condensation to overflow. Whether the appliance is a freestanding model near the Church of St Fimbarrus or a large American-style unit integrated into a kitchen cabinet, we check the cooling circuits and electronic controls. We look at noisy running issues, investigate faulty thermostats, and test the compressor relays to find out why temperatures are fluctuating. We repair domestic appliances in your home. Please note that we do not work on gas appliances.

Call 01752 922765This happens when cold air cannot circulate properly between the two compartments. The freezer generates the cold air, and a small fan pushes it up into the fridge. If the fan motor fails, or if a defrost fault allows ice to block the air channel, the fridge section will gradually warm up.
Water on the floor is usually caused by a blocked defrost drain. During the automatic defrost cycle, melted ice drips into a channel and flows down a tube to an evaporation tray above the compressor. If food crumbs block this tube, the water overflows inside the cabinet and eventually leaks out of the door.
A loud buzzing or rattling noise can come from a few different components. The compressor might be vibrating against its mountings, or the condenser fan blade could be hitting an obstruction. Sometimes, ice builds up around the internal evaporator fan, causing the blades to scrape against the frost as they spin.
