Know the home, know the fault
Properties along the steep-sided river valley and coast range from modern houses on the high ground to the north to ancient fishermen's homes near the harbour. These older buildings were constructed with living quarters upstairs and storage below. The local economy relies heavily on tourism, meaning there is a large number of holiday homes and guest houses. In a holiday let, a fridge freezer might be switched off between visits or left running empty, which changes how the compressor cycles. In an upstairs kitchen, moving a heavy American-style unit into place requires effort, and integrated models need adequate ventilation behind the cabinet doors to dissipate heat. When a fridge freezer develops a fault, it is usually a problem with airflow or temperature regulation. If the fridge section feels warm while the freezer still works, the defrost heater or timer might have failed, allowing ice to block the air channel between the two compartments. Frost and ice build-up inside the cabinet points to a damaged door seal letting humid room air in, or a faulty sensor. Water leaks pooling inside the salad crisper or running onto the floor happen when the internal condensation drain hole becomes blocked with food debris. Noisy running can indicate a failing fan motor struggling against ice, while faulty controls might stop the compressor from turning on at all. We repair freestanding, American-style and integrated models in your home. During a visit, we look at the compressor, thermostats, defrost elements and door seals to find out why one side has stopped working properly or why water is leaking. We also repair washing machines, tumble dryers, dishwashers and electric ovens, though we do not work on gas appliances.

Call 01752 922765This happens when cold air cannot circulate from the freezer into the fridge. The air channel between the two compartments might be blocked by a build-up of ice. A failed defrost heater, a broken fan motor or a faulty defrost timer will stop the system from clearing frost, eventually restricting the airflow completely.
Water inside the fridge usually comes from a blocked condensation drain. Moisture naturally forms on the back wall and drips down into a small gutter. If food crumbs or packaging block the drain hole, the water overflows into the base of the fridge and can eventually leak out onto the floor.
A thick build-up of ice is usually caused by warm room air entering the cabinet. A split or flattened door seal allows humid air to seep inside, which then freezes on the cooling elements. Alternatively, a faulty temperature sensor might cause the compressor to run continuously without entering its defrost cycle.
