Know the home, know the fault

Situated between Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor, Callington expanded during the nineteenth century from an agricultural market centre to become a highly significant mining settlement. Whether preparing meals using potatoes and vegetables sourced from local farmers, much like the regional food manufacturers do, a working electric oven is essential for daily cooking and baking. When an electric oven fails to heat, the issue is usually an open-circuit heating element or a faulty thermostat. Fan ovens might circulate air but remain cold if the main circular element has failed. Uneven cooking can point to a failing fan motor struggling to distribute heat properly across the shelves. Sometimes an oven will trip the household electrics as soon as it is turned on, which happens when moisture enters a damaged element or internal insulation breaks down. Other issues include worn door hinges that prevent the door from closing tightly, damaged seals letting heat escape into the kitchen, or electronic clocks and controls that stop responding entirely. We visit homes across the area, including those out towards Kelly Bray, to inspect electric ovens that will not heat, heat unevenly or trip the power. During a visit to your home, we look at faulty thermostats, controls, clocks, door hinges, seals and glass. We also cover nearby towns such as Saltash, Gunnislake, Liskeard and Launceston. Please note that we only work on electric and induction cooking appliances and do not repair gas cookers, gas hobs or any gas appliance.

An electric oven will usually trip the power if a heating element has failed and shorted to earth. This happens when the internal insulation breaks down or moisture gets inside the element casing. It can also be caused by a faulty fan motor or damaged wiring touching the metal chassis.

If the fan is spinning but there is no heat, the circular heating element surrounding the fan has likely failed. The element can burn out over time, breaking the electrical circuit. A faulty thermostat or a malfunctioning selector switch can also prevent the element from receiving power.

Oven doors fail to close properly when the hinges become worn or bent. The hinge springs lose their tension over time, leaving a gap at the top of the door. This allows heat to escape, which leads to uneven cooking and can eventually damage the control knobs above the door.
