Know the home, know the fault

Situated between Dartmoor to the east and Bodmin Moor to the west, Callington is a former agricultural market town that grew into a highly significant mining area during the nineteenth century. When a combination microwave stops working, it takes away a valuable cooking method, especially in households that use them for roasting or baking alongside standard heating tasks. A built-in microwave that runs but fails to heat food usually has a fault within the high-voltage components, such as the magnetron, the diode or the capacitor. If the glass turntable refuses to rotate, the issue is typically a failed synchronous motor beneath the cavity floor or a broken drive coupling. Door latch and switch faults are another reason a microwave might seem completely dead or refuse to start a cycle. The door mechanism contains several microswitches that must engage in a specific sequence. If one switch fails or the plastic latch breaks, the appliance will not operate. Control panel and display issues can also prevent the selection of heating programmes, leaving the unit unresponsive. During a home visit, we look at built-in and combination models that will not heat or turn, repairing them directly in your kitchen. Our domestic appliance repair service investigates microwaves that run but do not heat, turntables that will not turn, door latch and switch faults, and unresponsive controls or displays. We also repair electric ovens and hobs, though we do not work on gas cookers, gas hobs or any gas appliance.

When a microwave sounds like it is running normally but the food remains cold, the fault is usually within the high-voltage circuit. This could be a failed magnetron, which generates the microwaves, or a faulty high-voltage diode or capacitor. We investigate these internal components during a home visit, as they require specific testing to determine which part has failed.

A turntable that will not turn is typically caused by a broken synchronous motor located under the floor of the microwave cavity. Alternatively, the plastic drive coupling that connects the motor to the glass tray might be cracked. We look at turntables that will not turn to replace the damaged parts.

This behaviour is strongly linked to door latch and switch faults. The door features multiple microswitches designed to cut the power if the door is open. If a switch fails or the plastic latch mechanism breaks, the control board will not register that the door is closed, preventing the cycle from starting.
