Know the home, know the fault
The housing around this part of east Cornwall sits between Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor. In older houses, kitchens might be smaller, meaning a fridge freezer is sometimes pushed tightly into an alcove or placed in a utility area. This restricts airflow around the condenser coils at the back, which forces the compressor to run longer to keep the compartments at the correct temperature. When a unit struggles to disperse heat, several faults can develop. A fridge might feel warm while the freezer still works perfectly, or the reverse can happen if the air damper connecting the two sections fails. Frost and solid ice build-up inside the freezer compartment usually points to a failure in the automatic defrost system, such as a blown element or a faulty sensor. Water leaks inside the fridge cabinet or pooling onto the floor are typically caused by a blocked defrost drain tube. Noisy running often indicates a failing fan motor struggling against ice, while faulty controls can stop the cooling cycle entirely. During a repair visit, we look at the specific symptoms your appliance is showing, whether it is a standard freestanding unit, a large American-style model, or an integrated design hidden behind cabinet doors. We check the internal airflow, test the temperature sensors, and inspect the compressor and cooling circuit.

Call 01752 922765This happens when the defrost drain hole at the back of the fridge becomes blocked with food debris or packaging. Condensation that normally runs down the back wall and out to the evaporation tray has nowhere to go, so it collects under the salad crisper drawers and eventually leaks out.
Solid ice forms when warm air enters the cabinet or the automatic defrost cycle fails. A torn door seal lets room air inside, which freezes on the internal surfaces. Alternatively, a broken defrost heater or sensor prevents the appliance from melting away the normal frost that accumulates on the evaporator coils.
Many modern appliances use a single compressor to cool the freezer, then blow cold air up into the fridge through a vent. If the fan motor fails, or if ice blocks the air damper between the compartments, the cold air cannot circulate. This leaves the fridge warm while the freezer continues working.
