Know the home, know the fault

The town of Callington sits in eastern Cornwall, positioned between Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor. Historically a market centre for the surrounding agricultural community, it grew into a highly significant mining area during the nineteenth century. Today, local food manufacturers still support regional farming by purchasing potatoes and other vegetables from nearby growers. In any home, a kitchen relies on a working fridge to keep fresh produce and dairy at a safe temperature. When a fridge stops cooling properly, fresh food spoils quickly, creating unnecessary waste. A fridge relies on a sealed system of refrigerant, a compressor, and various sensors to maintain a steady internal climate. If the appliance feels too warm or fails to cool evenly, the thermostat might be faulty, or the door seals could be letting warm air seep inside. Ice building up on the back wall usually points to a drainage issue or a failing defrost component. Water pooling inside the cabin or leaking onto the floor is another sign of a blocked condensation drain. Sometimes, a fridge will run constantly, click, or make new noises, which indicates the compressor is struggling to maintain the set temperature. We look at fridges that are warm, noisy, or leaking. We check for faulty lights, test thermostats, inspect door seals, and investigate the cause of constant running or clicking. We repair domestic appliances in the home, covering washing machines, tumble dryers, electric ovens, and dishwashers alongside refrigeration units, though we do not work on gas cookers, gas hobs, or any gas appliance.

Water pooling inside the cabin usually happens when the condensation drain hole becomes blocked. During normal operation, moisture drips down the back wall and exits through a small hole. If crumbs or packaging block this drain, the water overflows into the bottom of the fridge or leaks onto the floor.

A fridge that runs constantly is struggling to reach its target temperature. This can happen if the door seals are degraded, allowing warm air to enter. Clicking noises often point to a faulty starter relay trying to engage the compressor. If the compressor cannot start properly, the appliance will fail to cool.

Ice buildup on the back wall indicates a problem with the temperature regulation or the defrost system. A faulty thermostat might cause the appliance to overcool, freezing the condensation before it can drain away. Damaged door gaskets can also let in excess ambient moisture, which then freezes on the cold internal surfaces.
