Know the home, know the fault

Situated in east Cornwall between Dartmoor to the east and Bodmin Moor to the west, this former agricultural market town grew into one of the most important mining areas in Great Britain during the nineteenth century. Today, with a population of about 5,983 people, the local economy maintains ties to farming, with regional food manufacturers buying vegetables from nearby growers. Homes in rural and agricultural communities generate demanding laundry loads, from muddy outdoor gear to thick workwear. Washing machines dealing with heavily soiled clothing work hard, putting extra strain on drum bearings, suspension springs and the motor. When washing heavy fabrics, a machine that will not drain or spin leaves clothes sitting in a drum full of water. A blocked pump filter stops the water from escaping, while worn motor carbon brushes fail to turn the drum. Excessive vibration on spin or a noisy drum points to worn bearings or damaged suspension dampers, which struggle to keep the tub stable under the weight of wet garments. Leaks from seals, hoses and the pump area develop as rubber perishes, while a door that will not open or close points to a faulty interlock mechanism. We diagnose filling and heating faults, alongside machines that trip the electrics or display error codes. We travel to addresses across the area, including places like Kelly Bray, to diagnose and repair washing machines in your home. We look at the pump, motor, heating element and door lock to find the cause of the fault. We also repair washer dryers, tumble dryers, dishwashers, refrigeration and electric cooking appliances, though we do not work on gas cookers, gas hobs or any gas appliance.

Excessive vibration on spin happens when the suspension dampers wear out or the drum bearings fail. The dampers absorb the movement of the heavy washing tub, and when they weaken, the machine shakes violently. Uneven loads or a machine that is not level on the floor will also cause heavy vibration.

A door that will not open is usually caused by water left inside the drum or a faulty door interlock. If the machine cannot drain, the pressure switch keeps the door locked to prevent a flood. If the drum is empty, the electrical locking mechanism itself has likely failed and requires replacement.

Machines that trip the electrics during a wash cycle usually have a faulty heating element. As the element heats the water, damaged insulation allows electrical current to leak to the earth connection. The household circuit breaker detects this fault and trips the power. We diagnose and repair heating faults in the home.
