Know the home, know the fault

Electric ovens are fitted across all these property types, from built-in models in modern fitted kitchens to freestanding cookers in older homes. Whether a property is a modern build or an older house, the kitchen relies on a functioning oven for daily meals. When an electric oven stops heating, the issue is usually a failed element. Fan ovens rely on a circular element surrounding the fan blade, and if this breaks, the appliance will blow cold air while the thermostat light remains on. Uneven cooking or food burning on one side points to a failing fan motor or a faulty temperature sensor. Another issue is the appliance tripping the household electrics, which happens when insulation inside an element breaks down and allows moisture to create a short circuit. Mechanical parts also wear out over time. Door hinges lose their tension, preventing the door from closing tightly, which lets heat escape and damages the control knobs above. Worn door seals cause the same heat loss, while faulty clocks can leave the appliance stuck in an automatic timer mode, stopping it from turning on at all. During a visit for electric oven repair, we look at appliances that will not heat or only heat on some functions. We investigate uneven cooking, fan oven faults and ovens that trip the electrics. The inspection also covers door hinges, seals and glass, alongside faulty thermostats, controls and clocks. We only work on electric and induction cooking appliances and do not repair gas cookers or any gas appliance.

The inner glass on an electric oven door is usually held in place by metal brackets or a sealant that degrades over time due to constant heating and cooling. When these fixings fail, the glass can slip. We look at door glass, hinges and seals during a repair visit to restore the door structure.

An electric oven will trip the power if there is an earth fault, which usually happens when an element splits or its internal insulation breaks down. This allows electrical current to leak to the metal casing. We investigate ovens that trip the electrics to locate the faulty component and resolve the short circuit.

If the fan is spinning and the thermostat light is on but there is no heat, the circular element surrounding the fan has likely failed. The element burns out and breaks the electrical circuit, stopping it from producing heat. We repair ovens that will not heat or only heat on some functions.
