Know the home, know the fault
The housing across this part of the Devon coast ranges from large Italianate villas built by affluent Victorians to post-war private apartment blocks standing on the cliffs above the harbour. Because the modern urban area grew by merging several smaller historical settlements, kitchens come in all shapes and sizes. Whether an electric oven is fitted in a sprawling period property or a compact high-rise flat, it remains the central cooking appliance. Built-in single and double ovens are designed to slot into standard cabinet spaces, but ventilation around the casing is always important. Poor airflow in a tight kitchen layout can cause the cooling fan to work harder, allowing the control fascia to overheat during a long roast. When an electric oven stops heating, the main oven element is usually the part that has failed. A visual inspection inside the cavity might reveal a blistered or split element ring, which will trip the electrics if the internal wire touches the outer casing. Uneven cooking is another issue, pointing towards a stalled circulation fan or a faulty thermostat failing to regulate the temperature. Heat loss through the front of the appliance is also an issue to watch for. Worn door hinges prevent the glass from sitting flush against the frame, while a degraded rubber seal allows hot air to escape, forcing the heating elements to stay on longer than necessary to maintain the set temperature. If you have an oven fault in Chelston or any other district, we repair appliances in your home. We look at electric ovens that will not heat, only heat on certain functions, or trip the power supply. Our visits cover uneven cooking, fan oven faults, faulty clocks, broken controls, and damaged door glass. We work on electric cooking appliances only, meaning we do not repair gas cookers, gas hobs, or any gas appliance.

Call 01752 922765This happens when an electrical component develops an earth fault. The most likely cause is a split or blistered heating element. As the element expands with heat, the internal wire touches the outer metal casing, causing the circuit breaker to trip. A faulty fan motor or damaged wiring can also cause this.
Uneven cooking usually points to a problem with the air circulation or temperature regulation. If the fan motor stalls or the fan blade is loose, hot air will not distribute properly around the cavity. Alternatively, a faulty thermostat might fail to read the internal temperature, causing the oven to cycle on and off at the wrong times.
A blank clock display usually means the timer module has failed or lost its power supply. If the oven still heats up, the issue is isolated to the clock unit itself. However, if the entire appliance is dead, there could be a blown thermal fuse or a problem with the main terminal block at the back.
