Know the home, know the fault
The housing stock along this part of the Cornish coast ranges from modern properties on the high ground to the north, to ancient fishermen's houses near the harbour where the original living quarters were built upstairs above ground floor storage areas. The local economy relies heavily on tourism, meaning a large portion of properties operate as holiday homes or guest houses. In these settings, a wine cooler is a practical addition for entertaining guests or storing drinks away from the main food fridge. When a chiller stops holding its temperature, it becomes useless for preserving wine or keeping beverages ready to serve. Wine chillers rely on steady airflow and precise sensors to maintain specific climates. A fault with the internal fan can stop cold air from circulating, leaving bottles at the top warmer than those at the bottom. Dual-zone models use separate controls to keep red and white wines at different temperatures, and a failure in a damper or sensor can cause one zone to fail while the other continues to work. Condensation or misting on the glass door points to a worn seal letting ambient air inside, forcing the compressor to run constantly. Control board faults can also cause the appliance to ignore the set temperature entirely. We travel to properties across the area, including the Hannafore estate, to repair appliances in the home. When inspecting a wine cooler, we look at why it is not holding the set temperature, investigate dual-zone models with one zone failing, check for the cause of condensation and misting on the door, and test for fan and control faults. Please note that we repair electric appliances only and do not work on gas cookers or any gas equipment.

Call 01752 922765Condensation and misting on the door usually indicate that the magnetic seal has degraded or split. When warm room air leaks into the chilled cabinet, moisture forms on the cold glass. Replacing the door seal restores the airtight barrier, stopping the condensation and preventing the compressor from overworking.
Dual-zone models use internal fans, dampers and separate temperature sensors to manage two distinct climates. If one zone fails while the other holds its temperature, the fault is isolated to the components serving that specific section. A faulty sensor or a jammed damper will prevent cold air from reaching the affected zone.
When a cooler fails to hold the set temperature, the issue can stem from a faulty thermostat, a broken circulation fan, or a failing compressor. If the internal fan stops running, cold air cannot circulate around the bottles. A malfunctioning control board can also fail to signal the cooling system to turn on.
