Know the home, know the fault

Properties in this area range from seventeenth century buildings and listed cottages on Culver Road to modern developments built during the nineteen nineties and later. Whether a wine cooler sits in a historic house or a recently constructed property on the Pillmere development, its basic function remains the same. These appliances need a stable ambient environment to work efficiently. If a chiller is placed in a room that gets very warm or very cold, the compressor and internal sensors have to work harder to maintain the correct climate for storing bottles. Built-in models also require adequate ventilation at the rear to dissipate heat. When a wine cooler fails to hold its set temperature, the issue might stem from a faulty thermostat, a failing compressor, or a blocked condenser matrix. Dual-zone models can develop a fault where one compartment stops chilling while the other continues to work normally. This points to an issue with the specific fan or damper controlling that section, or a failure in the control board directing the cooling cycle. Condensation and misting on the glass door usually indicate a degraded magnetic seal allowing ambient air to enter the cabinet. Fan and control faults can also stop the internal air from circulating properly, leaving some bottles too warm and others too cold. We repair these appliances directly in your home, alongside other electric kitchen equipment such as washing machines, dishwashers, ovens and fridge freezers. Please note that we only repair electric and induction cooking equipment, and we do not work on gas appliances.

Condensation and misting on the door usually happen when warm ambient air enters the chilled cabinet. This points to a failing or dirty magnetic door seal. If the rubber gasket is split or has lost its shape, it cannot form an airtight barrier. Replacing the seal will stop the misting and help the appliance maintain its set temperature without overworking the compressor.

Dual-zone models use a system of fans and dampers to direct cold air into separate compartments. If one zone fails while the other holds its temperature, the fault is likely isolated to the fan motor or the electronic control board managing that specific section. A faulty temperature sensor in the warmer zone can also cause the control board to stop cooling it.

A sudden increase in noise is usually related to the internal circulation fans or the compressor. If a fan bearing wears out, it will create a loud humming or rattling sound as it spins. Alternatively, the compressor mounts can degrade over time, causing the unit to vibrate against the cabinet. We can inspect the moving parts to locate the source of the noise.
