Know the home, know the fault
Chudleigh is an ancient wool settlement situated in the Teign Valley close to the edge of Dartmoor. Homes near wooded areas like Haldon Forest or out towards the moorland edge rely on good kitchen ventilation to manage cooking moisture. Extractor hoods in these varied properties work hard to pull steam and airborne grease away from cooking areas, especially during the colder months when windows stay closed. When an extractor stops doing its job, the kitchen quickly fills with cooking smells and condensation. A fan that will not run at all might have a failed selector switch or a burnt motor. If the motor runs but makes a loud vibrating noise, the fan blades could be unbalanced by a heavy accumulation of grease, or the motor bearings might be failing. Sometimes the suction drops noticeably. This happens when grease filters become completely blocked, restricting the airflow, or if a ducting pipe has become restricted. Failed lights are another issue, which can be caused by blown bulbs, faulty lamp holders, or a broken light switch on the control panel. We check fans that have lost suction or refuse to run, investigate noisy or vibrating motors, and test lights and switches that have failed. Please note that our cooking appliance repairs are electric and induction only, and we do not work on gas cookers, gas hobs or any gas appliance.

Call 01752 922765A loud vibrating noise usually points to an issue with the fan motor or the fan blades. Over time, grease can build up unevenly on the blades, causing them to spin out of balance. Alternatively, the motor bearings might be failing. We inspect the motor and blades to locate the source of the vibration.
When the lights fail, the most straightforward cause is blown bulbs. If replacing the bulbs does not help, the fault might lie with the lamp holders, the internal wiring, or the light switch on the main control board. We test these electrical components to find out exactly why the lighting circuit has failed.
Poor suction happens when saturated grease filters block the airflow. If the filters are clean, the issue could be a failing motor that is no longer spinning at full speed, or a restriction in the external ducting pipe.
