Know the home, know the fault
This ancient wool settlement sits in the Teign Valley close to the edge of Dartmoor. Today, homes near Haldon Forest and around the Church of St Martin and St Mary accommodate a population of around 4,751 people. Older properties sometimes have uneven floors or tight spaces for appliances. When a dishwasher is fitted into a confined space, the inlet and waste hoses can become kinked or trapped behind the machine, restricting water flow. Dishwashers rely on a sequence of filling, heating, spraying and draining to clean plates and cutlery. If dishes emerge wet and cold, the heating element or its control relay may have failed. Poor cleaning results are sometimes caused by blocked spray arms, where food debris restricts the nozzles and stops the arms from spinning freely. When a machine will not drain, leaving dirty water in the base, the drain pump could be blocked by a stray piece of glass or a fruit stone. Leaks can develop if the main door seal perishes or if the lower spray arm splits, directing water against the door edge. We visit homes across the district, including nearby Chudleigh Knighton, to investigate machines that will not start or are displaying error codes. During a visit, we look at draining faults, water left in the base, poor cleaning results and spray arm problems. We also examine heating faults where dishes are left wet, alongside leaks and door seal problems. We repair electric cooking appliances, washing machines and refrigeration equipment, though we do not work on gas appliances.

Call 01752 922765Water left in the base usually points to a draining fault. The drain pump can become obstructed by food debris, broken glass or fruit seeds that bypass the filters. Alternatively, the waste hose might be kinked behind the machine or blocked where it joins the sink plumbing. We look at these draining faults during a visit.
If your dishes are wet at the end of a programme, the machine is likely experiencing a heating fault. Dishwashers use residual heat from the final hot rinse to dry the load. When the heating element or the main control board fails, the water remains cold, leaving the contents wet and poorly cleaned.
Leaks from the front of the machine are sometimes caused by a damaged or perished door seal. Another possibility is a split in the lower spray arm. When a spray arm splits along its seam, it can force a wave of water directly against the bottom edge of the door, bypassing the seal entirely.
