Know the home, know the fault
Tourism drives the local economy in Looe, so a significant number of properties operate as guest houses, hotels and holiday homes. The community initially developed as two separate settlements on opposing sides of the river before joining together. In the older fishermen's dwellings, living spaces were built upstairs with storage underneath. Meanwhile, a cluster of modern properties sits on the higher ground to the north. In a busy holiday let kitchen, an extractor hood works hard to clear steam and cooking smells. When a hood breaks down in a rental property, odours can quickly spread through the living areas. Extractor hoods develop a few specific faults over time. Motors can become noisy or start vibrating, which points to worn bearings or an unbalanced fan blade. If the fan will not run at all or has lost suction, the motor might have failed or the grease filters could be completely blocked. Switches take a lot of physical use and can break internally, leaving you unable to change the fan speed or turn the unit on. Failed lights are another issue, sometimes caused by blown bulbs but occasionally due to a faulty control board or damaged wiring within the hood canopy. When visiting a property in the Sunrising housing estate or elsewhere locally, we repair extractor hoods in your home. We look at hoods with no suction, noisy fans or failed lights. We check fans that will not run, test noisy or vibrating motors, and inspect lights and switches that have failed. We only repair electric appliances and do not work on gas.

Call 01752 922765A loud vibrating noise usually points to a problem with the extractor fan motor or the fan blades. Over time, grease and dirt can build up unevenly on the blades, causing them to spin out of balance. Alternatively, the motor bearings might have worn down through normal use. We inspect noisy or vibrating motors to see which parts need replacing.
When new bulbs do not solve the problem, the issue is likely within the internal electrical components. Cooker hood lights rely on switches, wiring and sometimes a control board to function. Heat and cooking moisture can damage these parts over time. We look at lights and switches that have failed to determine if a replacement switch or lamp holder is required.
Poor extraction happens when saturated grease filters block the airflow. If the filters are clean but the hood still lacks suction, the motor may be failing to reach its full speed. Blockages in the external venting duct can also restrict the air.
