Know the home, know the fault
The local postcode area was once judged as the most desirable place to live in Great Britain based on school results and crime figures. While older properties might have traditional freestanding electric cookers, newer homes tend to feature built-in ceramic or induction hobs. We repair electric and induction hobs, but we do not work on gas cookers, gas hobs or any gas appliance. When a ceramic hob has a zone that will not heat, the issue is usually a failed heating element or a faulty energy regulator located behind the control knob. Induction models operate differently, using magnetic fields to heat the pan directly rather than heating the glass. If an induction zone fails to recognise a pan or switches off unexpectedly, the fault might lie within the internal inverter board or the cooling fan. Touch controls that do not respond can affect both types of hob, sometimes caused by moisture getting under the glass or a failing user interface module. Another issue is a hob that trips the electrics, which happens when a component shorts out to the earth connection. During a home visit, we look at zones or rings that will not heat, touch controls that do not respond, error codes, hobs that switch off, and units that trip the electrics. We test the internal wiring, check the condition of the glass seal, and examine the electronic control boards to find out why the cooking appliance has stopped working.

Call 01752 922765Error codes indicate that the internal diagnostics have detected a fault. This could be an overheating issue, a communication failure between the touch control module and the main power board, or a problem with the cooling fan. We test the electronic components to identify which part is generating the error.
When a ceramic heating zone refuses to turn down and remains on maximum heat, the energy regulator or the control relay has usually failed in the closed position. This means power flows continuously to the element regardless of the dial setting. The faulty control switch or relay board requires replacement.
A hob trips the electrics when there is an electrical short to earth. This happens if liquid boils over and reaches the internal wiring, or if the insulation inside a heating element breaks down through wear. We trace the internal circuits to locate the exact point where the short occurs.
