Know the home, know the fault

Properties across this postcode district range from seventeenth century buildings like Burrell House and a listed cottage on Culver Road to modern housing in Pillmere and the nineteen nineties expansion at Latchbrook. Older properties sometimes have smaller kitchens where space dictates where a tall appliance can sit, while modern homes are usually designed with standard appliance dimensions in mind. Whether a freestanding unit is tucked into an alcove or an integrated model is hidden behind cabinet doors, adequate ventilation around the condenser coils remains essential for the cooling system to function without overheating. A fridge freezer relies on a compressor and a sealed refrigerant circuit to remove heat from the interior compartments. When the freezer section stays frozen but the fridge compartment grows warm, the issue might stem from a blocked defrost drain or an evaporator fan failing to circulate cold air upwards. Frost and ice build-up inside the cabinet points towards a faulty defrost heater, a broken thermostat, or a damaged door seal letting humid room air seep inside. Water pooling under the salad crisper drawers or leaking onto the floor usually indicates a blocked condensation channel. Noisy running can be traced to a worn compressor mount or a failing fan motor. We travel across the estuary to repair appliances in customers' homes. During a repair, we look at faulty controls, damaged sensors, and failing mechanical components. Please note that while we repair electric ovens and induction hobs, we do not work on gas cookers, gas hobs or any gas appliance.

Water pooling under the salad crisper drawers is normally caused by a blocked condensation channel. When the fridge runs, moisture condenses on the back wall and drips into a small gutter. If food debris or packaging blocks the drain hole, the water overflows into the base of the fridge instead of evaporating outside.

Ice build-up happens when warm, humid air enters the freezer and freezes on the internal surfaces. A damaged or split door seal is a primary cause, as it stops the door from closing completely. Alternatively, a failure in the automatic defrost system, such as a broken heater element, will allow frost to accumulate.

A rattling noise can occur if the appliance is not sitting level on the floor, causing the internal components to vibrate against the casing. A loud buzzing or humming sound usually points to a failing compressor motor or an issue with the evaporator fan blades hitting a build-up of ice.
