Know the home, know the fault

Across these different property ages, kitchens vary significantly in size and layout. Built-in and combination microwaves are integrated directly into kitchen units to save counter space. In older properties where kitchen dimensions might be restricted, a built-in combination model provides both standard microwave heating and traditional oven functions in a single appliance. In newer developments, they are fitted alongside an electric oven in a tall housing unit. When a built-in microwave stops working, the appliance must be uninstalled from its housing to access the internal components safely. A unit that runs but fails to heat the food has an issue with the magnetron, the high voltage diode, or the capacitor. If the glass turntable will not rotate, the fault is a failed synchronous motor located underneath the cavity floor, or a broken drive coupling. Door latches and microswitches are also critical components. The door must close securely to engage the safety switches; if the latch mechanism breaks or a switch fails, the control board will prevent the appliance from starting. Display panels and touch controls can also become unresponsive over time. We repair built-in and combination microwaves in your home. During a visit, we look at models that run but do not heat, turntables that will not turn, door latch and switch faults, as well as unresponsive controls and displays. The appliance is removed from its cabinet, the casing is opened, and the internal electrical components are tested to find the fault before the unit is reassembled and refitted into your kitchen.

When a microwave sounds like it is working but the food remains cold, the issue is within the high voltage circuit. This involves testing the magnetron, the high voltage capacitor, and the diode. These components generate the microwave energy, and if one fails, the appliance will run without producing any heat.

A turntable that will not turn is caused by a faulty synchronous motor located beneath the floor of the microwave cavity. Alternatively, the plastic drive coupling that connects the motor to the glass tray might be cracked or stripped. The roller ring underneath the tray can also become jammed with food debris.

Microwaves have multiple safety microswitches hidden inside the door frame. The door hooks must engage these switches in the correct sequence to tell the control board that the door is securely closed. If a hook breaks, a spring snaps, or a switch fails, the appliance will not start as a safety precaution.
