Know the home, know the fault
Properties in Ivybridge range from Victorian buildings in the centre to semi-detached houses built on quite steep roads. Further out, suburban street plans reflect a period of rapid growth during the late twentieth century, while former paper mill buildings are being converted into shops and homes. These varied properties, set against a backdrop of farmland, dense woodland and river valleys, house different styles of freezing equipment. Older homes might rely on a slim upright model in a compact kitchen, whereas the larger suburban houses provide space for a high-capacity chest freezer in a utility area or an integrated unit hidden behind cabinet doors. When a freezer stops maintaining the correct temperature, the signs are clear. A unit that runs constantly or triggers a temperature alarm is struggling to remove heat from the cabinet. This happens when the compressor works overtime to compensate for a split door seal letting warm air inside. Heavy ice build-up is another issue, which eventually causes plastic drawers to stick and crack when pulled. In frost-free models, a failed defrost heater or a blocked drainage channel will cause ice to choke the evaporator matrix, stopping the fan from circulating cold air and leaving the appliance unable to freeze food properly. During a visit, we inspect upright and chest freezers that are not cold enough or are icing up. We look at the underlying causes of temperature alarms, constant running, and heavy ice build-up that leaves drawers stuck fast. We also check for door seal faults and test the internal components to find out why the cabinet is not freezing. We repair these appliances directly in your home.

Call 01752 922765A frost-free freezer relies on a heating element to melt away frost before it turns to solid ice. If this heater fails, or if the drainage channel that carries the melted water away becomes blocked, ice will accumulate rapidly. This eventually stops the internal fan from turning and prevents cold air from circulating through the cabinet.
Constant running usually means the appliance is struggling to reach its target temperature. This can happen if the lid seal is torn or compressed, allowing warm room air to seep inside. The compressor then has to work continuously to compensate. A failing thermostat or a partial loss of refrigerant gas will also cause the motor to run without a break.
The alarm sounds when the internal temperature rises above a safe freezing level. This might be due to a door that has been left slightly open, or heavy ice build-up restricting the cold airflow. It can also indicate a failing compressor or a faulty temperature sensor. We check the internal components to find out exactly why the cabinet is too warm.
