Know the home, know the fault
A period of rapid expansion in the late twentieth century alongside the Devon Expressway added many modern properties, while the historic paper mill buildings are currently being transformed into new residential and retail spaces. In these varied kitchens, freestanding electric cookers remain a practical choice, offering an oven, grill and hob in a single unit. When a freestanding cooker stops working as it should, the issue is usually isolated to a specific component. A main oven or grill that fails to heat up is a classic sign of a blown heating element, which can happen in both standard electric and fan-assisted models. If the appliance trips the household electrics when turned on, the element has likely failed and shorted to earth. On the top section, solid hotplates, radiant rings or ceramic zones can stop heating if their individual energy regulators or control switches burn out. Door faults are another practical issue, where worn hinges or damaged seals let heat escape, causing the oven to work harder and cook food unevenly. We also travel out to surrounding places like Ugborough. During a home visit, we look at oven and grill heating faults, hob rings or zones not heating, cookers that trip the electrics, and broken controls, switches or door hinges. We repair domestic appliances. Please note that our cooking appliance repairs are strictly for electric and induction models, so we do not work on gas cookers, gas hobs or any gas appliance.

Call 01752 922765This usually happens when the main oven heating element has failed and shorted to earth. As soon as power flows to the damaged element, the safety breaker in your consumer unit detects the electrical fault and trips to protect the circuit. The faulty element needs to be removed and replaced to resolve the issue.
When a single zone fails on an electric hob, the problem is normally a burnt out heating element under the glass or a faulty energy regulator behind the control knob. If the switch cannot send power to the zone, or the zone itself has a broken circuit, it will remain cold while the others work.
Yes, door faults are something we look at during a repair visit. A door that hangs loose or fails to shut tightly is usually caused by worn or bent hinges, or a damaged hinge receiver inside the cooker frame. Replacing the hinges restores the seal, keeping the heat inside the oven where it belongs.
