Know the home, know the fault
The housing layout in Ivybridge changes as you move outwards from the centre, where Victorian buildings are the main feature. New residential spaces are also being created inside the old paper mill buildings. Moving a heavy washing machine into place can be difficult in older properties, whereas newer detached homes tend to have wider utility rooms. A machine needs a solid, level floor to operate correctly. If a floor has a slight slope or uneven boards, the appliance can vibrate excessively on spin. When a washing machine develops a fault, it will usually stop mid-cycle or refuse to start. A machine that will not drain is a typical issue, which prevents the spin cycle from engaging. This happens when a blockage restricts the pump area or the drain hose. Leaks can appear from degraded door seals, loose internal hoses, or a failing pump housing. If the drum becomes noisy or vibrates heavily, the suspension legs or drum bearings might be worn. We also inspect machines that trip the electrics or display error codes. Sometimes a door lock mechanism fails, leaving the door jammed shut with wet clothes inside, or refusing to click closed. We diagnose draining, spinning, filling and heating faults directly in your home. We look at the water inlet valves, the heating element, the motor and the control board to find out why the appliance is not working. We repair washing machines alongside dishwashers, refrigeration and electric cooking appliances, though we do not work on gas.

Call 01752 922765A leak from the front of the machine is usually caused by a damaged or degraded rubber door seal. Over time, the seal can develop small tears from zips or coins left in pockets. Mould and dirt build-up can also prevent the glass door from seating flush against the rubber, allowing water to escape during the wash cycle.
A machine that will not drain is typically blocked somewhere in the system. The most likely place is the pump filter, which catches debris like hair grips, coins and lint. If the filter is clear, the drain hose or the pump itself might be obstructed, preventing the dirty water from leaving the drum before the spin cycle starts.
Excessive noise and vibration during a spin cycle can happen if the machine is not sitting level on a solid floor. Internally, the noise might be caused by worn suspension legs that fail to absorb the movement of the drum. Worn drum bearings or a loose concrete counterweight can also create a loud banging sound at high speeds.
