Homes in Ivybridge

Know the home, know the fault

The housing layout in Ivybridge shifts from Victorian properties in the centre to suburban streets further out. When a wine cooler is installed in these varied kitchens or dining rooms, it needs good airflow to function well. Built-in units in older, narrower spaces or freestanding chillers in larger suburban kitchens rely on adequate ventilation to expel heat. If a unit is pushed too tightly against a wall or enclosed in a tight cabinet, the compressor has to work harder to maintain the internal climate. A chiller that will not hold its set temperature is a standard issue. This can happen if the door seals degrade, letting warm room air mix with the chilled interior. When this occurs, condensation and misting build up on the glass door. Dual-zone models can develop a fault where one section fails to cool while the other works fine, which points to an issue with the internal fans or the control board failing to direct cold air properly. Fan faults also lead to uneven cooling, as the air is not circulated around the bottles. A failing compressor or blocked condenser coils will stop the appliance from reaching the required temperature entirely. When we inspect a faulty wine cooler, we look at units not holding the set temperature, dual-zone models with one zone failing, condensation and misting on the door, and fan and control faults. We test the internal sensors, check the door gaskets for gaps, and assess the cooling system to find out why the appliance is not chilling your drinks correctly.

Misting and condensation on the glass usually mean warm air is entering the cabinet. This happens if the magnetic door seal is split, twisted or coated in dirt, preventing it from closing flush against the frame. We check the gasket condition and the door alignment to stop the air leak.

Dual-zone models use internal fans and baffles to separate and control the temperatures in different compartments. If one zone fails while the other stays cold, it points to a broken circulation fan, a stuck damper or a fault on the main control board failing to regulate that specific section.

A compressor that runs without stopping is trying to compensate for a lack of cooling. This can be caused by a faulty thermostat not reading the temperature correctly, blocked condenser coils at the back restricting heat transfer, or a failing compressor. We test the cooling system to find the fault.
