Know the home, know the fault
There are also new homes being created within the former paper mill buildings. Kitchen layouts vary across these different property styles, from compact spaces in older terraces to larger open-plan designs in modern suburban additions built during the rapid expansion of the eighties and nineties. When an electric or induction hob fails in any of these kitchens, it stops meal preparation completely. Electric and ceramic hobs rely on heating elements under the glass, while induction models use magnetic coils to heat the pan directly. A zone or ring that will not heat up might have a failed element, a faulty simmerstat or a damaged relay on the main control board. Touch controls that do not respond are another issue, sometimes caused by moisture getting under the glass or a failing user interface module. When an induction unit displays error codes or switches off unexpectedly, it indicates a communication failure between the internal boards or an overheating component. A hob that trips the electrics usually has a dead short in one of the heating zones or the main terminal block. During a visit, we test the incoming supply and inspect the internal wiring. We look at why zones are not heating, investigate unresponsive touch controls, trace the source of error codes and find out why the appliance is tripping the electrics. We do not work on gas hobs or any gas appliances, focusing entirely on electric and induction cooking equipment.

Call 01752 922765An induction hob will switch off if it detects an internal fault or if it overheats. This can happen if the cooling fan underneath the glass fails or if ventilation around the appliance is restricted. Error codes usually accompany this behaviour, pointing to a communication issue between the user interface and the main power board.
When a ceramic heating zone refuses to turn down and stays on maximum heat, the energy regulator or simmerstat has failed. On models with touch controls, a stuck relay on the main circuit board causes the same symptom. The faulty component needs to be identified and replaced to restore temperature control to the affected ring.
A hob that trips the electrics usually has a dead short to earth. This happens when a heating element breaks down internally or if liquid boils over and reaches the wiring connections below the glass. We test the terminal block, the individual zones and the control switches to locate the exact source of the electrical short.
