Know the home, know the fault
Properties around the centre of Kingsbridge retain many eighteenth and nineteenth-century buildings, while the wider area serves families attending the large secondary school and visitors drawn to the estuary setting. In older properties, kitchens might have been updated several times, often replacing freestanding cookers with built-in electric or induction hobs to save worktop space. Holiday accommodation also relies heavily on these modern appliances, as flat glass surfaces are straightforward for guests to wipe down after cooking. When a ceramic or induction hob stops working, the issue is usually hidden beneath the glass. A zone that refuses to heat up might have a failed heating element or a faulty energy regulator. Induction models use copper coils to create a magnetic field, and if the internal cooling fan fails or the main control board develops a fault, the appliance will often display an error code and switch itself off. Touch controls can also become unresponsive if moisture gets trapped underneath the surface or if the user interface board degrades. Sometimes, a compromised wire or a blown terminal block will cause the appliance to trip the household electrics entirely. During a visit, we look at zones or rings that will not heat, touch controls that do not respond, error codes, and hobs that switch off or trip the electrics. We repair these appliances directly in your kitchen. Please note that we only repair electric and induction cooking appliances, so we do not work on gas hobs or any gas equipment.

Call 01752 922765Error codes on induction models usually indicate an internal communication fault or an overheating issue. If the cooling fan underneath the coils fails, the appliance will shut down to protect the internal electronics. A flashing code can also point to a faulty main control board or a problem with the user interface.
When a single ceramic zone fails to heat, the most likely cause is a broken heating element beneath the glass. Alternatively, the energy regulator or the touch control board that sends power to that specific ring might have failed. We can test the components to find out where the circuit is broken.
An electric hob will trip your household electrics if there is a short circuit or an earth fault. This happens when water boils over and reaches the wiring, or if the terminal block where the mains cable connects has burnt out. A degraded heating element can also cause the power to trip.
