Know the home, know the fault

Properties in the centre retain many buildings from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, while the proximity to the coast makes the area a popular tourist destination. The settlement originally grew around a bridge constructed in or before the tenth century. Today, larger households with children attending the secondary school, alongside holiday lets, rely heavily on their cooking appliances. An electric range cooker provides the capacity needed to feed a large family or a house full of guests, but the heavy daily use of multiple ovens, grills, and heating zones takes a toll on the internal components. When an electric range cooker develops a fault, the issue is usually isolated to one specific section rather than the entire appliance. A main or secondary oven that stops heating while the circulation fan continues to run points directly to a failed element. If the cooker trips the electrics the moment a dial is turned, the insulation inside one of those heating elements has likely broken down and caused a short circuit. We also look at grill and hob faults, such as solid hotplates or ceramic zones that refuse to heat up. Control switches, cooling fans, and thermostats can burn out over time, leaving you unable to regulate the temperature accurately. We only work on electric and induction models, so we do not repair gas cookers or any gas appliance. Whether your property is near the estuary or over in Dodbrooke, we carry out the repair directly in your home. Once there, we will dismantle the necessary sections of the cooker to test the internal wiring, selector switches, and heating elements, replacing the broken item to get the oven or hob working again.

This happens when the fan oven element fails. The fan motor continues to circulate air around the cavity, but because the heating element has broken, the air remains cold. We can test the element with a multimeter and fit a replacement to get the oven heating again.

Tripping is usually caused by an electrical short to earth. In an electric range cooker, the insulation inside a heating element or grill can deteriorate, allowing moisture to enter or the internal wire to touch the outer casing. We test the internal components to find the short circuit.

When a ceramic zone refuses to turn down and stays glowing red on maximum heat, the energy regulator behind the control knob has likely failed. The regulator is responsible for pulsing the power on and off to maintain the selected temperature. Replacing the faulty switch will resolve the heating issue.
