Know the home, know the fault

Properties across this coastal area vary considerably, from the low density, dispersed suburbia built after the Second World War to the major new settlements developing to the east. Many local houses use prefabricated systems built rapidly during the nineteen fifties. An electric range cooker provides multiple cooking zones, combining a hob with main and secondary ovens. When one of these sections stops working, the appliance loses its main advantage of handling multiple dishes at once. A heavy appliance with multiple heating elements draws a significant amount of power, which can lead to electrical faults. If the main or secondary oven is not heating but the indicator lights remain on, the fan element is the likely point of failure. When the entire unit trips the electrics, a degraded element in the oven or grill shorting to earth will cause this. Hob faults on these large cookers might involve a single ceramic zone failing to glow or an induction ring not recognising pans. We also look at issues with controls, cooling fans and thermostats. Because we only work on electric and induction models, we do not repair gas cookers, gas hobs or any gas appliance. When we arrive, we look at the specific section of the range cooker that has failed, whether that is a faulty grill, an unresponsive hob or a thermostat issue in the secondary oven. We dismantle the necessary panels to test the internal wiring, thermal cut-outs and selector switches, to find the component responsible for the heating failure or electrical trip.

This happens when an electrical component shorts to earth. In an electric range cooker, the most likely culprit is a degraded heating element in the main oven, secondary oven or grill. Moisture or physical wear breaks down the internal insulation. We dismantle the appliance to test each element and locate the short circuit.

If the fan is spinning and the thermostat light comes on but there is no heat, the circular fan element has failed. The element sits behind a panel at the back of the oven cavity. The secondary oven and hob will continue to work normally while the main oven element is broken.

Yes, we repair electric and induction hobs on range cookers. Induction faults can involve a single cooking zone failing to detect pans, or the entire glass top becoming unresponsive due to a control board issue. We test the induction modules, wiring and touch controls. We do not work on gas hobs.
