Know the home, know the fault
Properties in Torpoint, an eighteenth-century planned town, range from older houses to homes built as the settlement expanded for Devonport Dockyard workers and personnel from the naval training base. Because these large appliances combine multiple ovens, a grill and an expansive hob into one heavy unit, they are designed to stay in place. When a fault develops, the repair has to be carried out in the kitchen rather than moving the cooker to a workshop. A heavy multi-cavity cooker has a complex internal wiring system to manage the power drawn by its different sections. If the main or secondary oven stops heating while the fan still turns, the fan oven element has usually failed. When the appliance starts tripping the household electrics, the cause is often a degraded element in the grill or one of the ovens shorting out to earth. Other faults involve the hob rings failing to reach temperature, or issues with the selector switches, controls and thermostats that regulate the heat across the different cooking zones. We only repair electric models and do not work on gas cookers or gas hobs. Whether your property is near the tidal estuary or further out towards Antony, we come to your home to inspect the appliance. We look at the controls, fans and thermostats, test the heating elements in the ovens and grill, and check the hob connections to find out why the cooker is not working.

Call 01752 922765When the fan is running but the oven remains completely cold, the circular heating element surrounding the fan has usually failed. The element breaks down internally and stops producing heat, leaving only the fan to circulate unheated air. We can test the element and the thermostat to confirm which part requires replacing.
Tripping electrics usually point to an electrical short to earth within the cooker. This happens when the internal insulation of a heating element in the oven or grill degrades. Moisture or physical wear allows the electrical current to touch the outer casing, which immediately triggers your consumer unit to cut the power.
Many electric range cookers use a dual-circuit grill element, which has an inner and an outer loop to provide different heat settings. If one side or section is not glowing red, that specific loop has likely burned out. The entire grill element unit usually needs to be replaced to restore even heating.
