Know the home, know the fault
Situated on the southern coast between the rivers Plym and Tamar, this area has a diverse mix of housing. The nineteen fifties saw the rapid construction of prefabricated properties, which eventually led to widespread low density suburban housing. Today, major new housing settlements are being developed to the east of the city. Alongside residential families and military personnel from the local naval base, a large student population lives here. In shared student houses or busy family homes, a washing machine works hard. Heavy loads put strain on the drum bearings, while frequent back-to-back cycles test the motor and heating elements. When a washing machine stops working, the symptoms point to specific internal parts. A machine that will not drain or spin indicates a blockage in the pump filter or a failed drain pump. If the drum refuses to turn but fills with water, the motor carbon brushes might be worn down or the drive belt could have snapped. Leaks develop from degraded door seals, split internal hoses or a cracked pump housing. Excessive vibration and a roaring noise on the spin cycle point to worn drum bearings. Other faults include doors that will not open due to a faulty interlock, and machines that trip the electrics when the heating element fails. Whether visiting a property in Stoke Damerel or a newer build further out, we diagnose and repair washing machines in your home. We look at draining, spinning, filling and heating faults, alongside leaks from seals, hoses and the pump area. We also investigate door locks, machines showing error codes or tripping the electrics, and noisy drums with excessive vibration on spin. We repair electric cooking appliances, but we do not work on gas.

Call 01752 922765Excessive vibration during the spin cycle points to a few possible issues. The machine might be unbalanced due to a heavy load, or the adjustable feet could be uneven on the floor. If the vibration is accompanied by a loud roaring noise, the internal drum bearings have likely worn out and need replacing.
A machine that will not drain is typically caused by a blockage in the pump filter, which catches coins, hair and lint before they reach the drain pump. If the filter is clear, the drain pump itself might have failed, or there could be an obstruction in the waste hose connecting to your plumbing.
Washing machine doors stay locked during a cycle for safety. If the door will not open once the cycle finishes, the door interlock mechanism might have failed. Alternatively, if the machine detects water still inside the drum, it keeps the door locked to prevent a flood. A broken physical handle will also stop the door from opening.
