Know the home, know the fault
The settlement across the tidal estuary from Plymouth began as an eighteenth-century planned town. As Devonport Dockyard workers moved across the water to settle, and the Royal Navy established its main training facility at HMS Raleigh, the housing expanded to accommodate the growing population. In these varied properties, kitchens range from older layouts to modern refits. Built-in and combination microwaves are integrated into these spaces to keep worktops clear. When a built-in unit stops working, it is usually more practical to repair the appliance in place rather than attempting to extract it and find a matching replacement. Combination models and standard microwaves share similar failure patterns. A unit that runs but fails to heat the food usually has an issue with the magnetron or the high-voltage components that power it. Turntables that will not rotate point to a failed synchronous motor beneath the cavity floor, leading to uneven cooking. Door latches and their internal microswitches are another area that requires attention. If the switches do not register that the door is securely closed, the control board will prevent the appliance from starting. Display panels and touch controls can also become unresponsive, leaving the appliance unable to accept cooking times or mode selections. When visiting homes on the Rame Peninsula, we examine the specific symptoms your appliance is showing. We look at built-in and combination microwaves that run but do not heat, turntables that refuse to turn, and faults with door latches, switches, controls and displays. Our domestic appliance repair service covers these faults directly in your kitchen. Please note that our cooking appliance repairs are strictly for electric and induction models, so we do not work on gas appliances of any kind.

Call 01752 922765A microwave that sounds like it is working but produces no heat usually has a fault in the high-voltage circuit. The magnetron, which generates the microwave energy, may have failed. Alternatively, the high-voltage capacitor or diode might be faulty. We inspect these internal components to find out why the appliance is not heating.
The glass tray sits on a coupling driven by a small synchronous motor located under the floor of the microwave. If this motor burns out or the wiring connection fails, the tray will not turn. A broken roller ring or a damaged drive coupling will also prevent rotation and lead to uneven cooking.
This happens when the control board does not receive confirmation that the door is closed. The door latch engages with several small microswitches inside the cabinet. If one of these switches fails or the plastic latch mechanism breaks, the appliance will not start. Unresponsive touch displays can also prevent the unit from operating.
