Know the home, know the fault
Properties on the south-western edge of Dartmoor range from grand late Victorian and Edwardian villas to bed-and-breakfasts serving walkers visiting the area. Some local shops occupy a nineteenth-century terrace that had its upper storey removed, but the surrounding residential homes rely heavily on domestic laundry appliances. A tumble dryer works hard in a guest house turning over towels and bedding, while larger period homes built for early commuters might have utility rooms where a vented or condenser machine operates. Whether a machine is drying walking gear or weekly family loads, the internal components have to handle significant heat, lint and moisture. When a dryer runs but produces no heat, the heating element or a thermal overload cutout has failed. A drum that will not turn while the motor can still be heard running points to a snapped drive belt, which requires dismantling the cabinet to replace. Machines that stop mid-cycle or refuse to start at all might have a faulty door catch, a blocked moisture sensor, or a problem with the main control board. Condenser models rely on a pump to move extracted moisture into the water container, and a blockage or pump failure here leaves clothes damp. Noisy running points to worn support rollers, failing bearings, or tensioner pulleys that have lost their lubrication. We travel out past Roborough Down to repair domestic appliances in customers' homes. When looking at a faulty tumble dryer, we check the drive mechanisms, heating circuits, sensors and condenser systems to find out why it will not heat, turn or finish a cycle. Alongside dryers, we repair washing machines, washer dryers, dishwashers, fridges, freezers, electric cookers, electric range cookers, and electric or induction hobs. We do not work on gas cookers, gas hobs or any gas appliance.

Call 01752 922765A machine that turns normally without warming up has a fault in the heating circuit. The heating element itself can burn out, or the thermal overload thermostats might have tripped to prevent overheating. We test these components along with the main control board and wiring connections during a visit to understand why the appliance remains cold.
If you can hear the motor running but the drum remains still, the drive belt has snapped or slipped off the motor pulley. Replacing a broken belt involves taking the cabinet apart to route the new belt around the drum and tensioner. A seized drum bearing or a failed motor capacitor will also prevent rotation.
Condenser dryers extract moisture from the load and pump it into a water container. If the pump fails, or if lint blocks the hoses leading to the container, the water cannot drain away. The machine will either stop mid-cycle with a full tank warning or continue running without actually removing any more moisture from the laundry.
