Know the home, know the fault
Properties along the steep-sided valley of the River Looe range from modern houses on the high ground to the north, to ancient fishermen's homes near the harbour. In those older properties, living quarters were historically built upstairs with storage below, meaning utility spaces might be arranged differently today. With a local economy focused on tourism, many addresses operate as holiday homes, guest houses and hotels. Washing machines in holiday lets endure heavy use during the summer months, processing constant loads of bedding and towels. When a machine processes heavy loads like thick towels, the drum bearings and suspension systems take the strain. Overloading can lead to noisy drums and excessive vibration on the spin cycle. Sand from beach visits can also find its way into the drum, eventually reaching the pump area where it might cause blockages. A machine that will not drain or spin is sometimes the result of debris obstructing the filter or the pump impeller. Other issues include leaks from door seals or internal hoses, heating faults that leave clothes washed in cold water, and door locks that refuse to open at the end of a cycle. We also inspect machines that will not fill or start at all. During a home visit, we diagnose draining, spinning, filling and heating faults. We look at leaks from seals, hoses and the pump area, as well as doors that will not open or close. If a washing machine trips the electrics or displays error codes, we trace the electrical fault to its source. We also travel to nearby Liskeard and Saltash.

Call 01752 922765Excessive vibration during a spin cycle usually points to an unbalanced load or worn suspension components. Heavy items like wet towels can clump together, throwing the drum off balance. If the load is balanced but the machine still shakes violently, the shock absorbers or drum bearings might have failed.
A door that will not open at the end of a cycle is usually caused by water remaining in the drum or a faulty locking mechanism. The machine's pressure switch prevents the door from opening if it detects water. Alternatively, the electrical interlock or the physical door catch may have broken.
When a washing machine trips the electrics, it indicates an electrical short or an earth leak. This happens when water leaks onto internal wiring or electrical components. The heating element is a prime suspect, as its internal insulation degrades over time, causing a short circuit when the water heats up.
