Know the home, know the fault

Properties along this part of the south western coast range from large villas with Italianate features built by wealthy nineteenth-century residents, to private high-rise blocks of flats constructed above the harbour after the Second World War. The modern urban area grew by merging several small historical settlements together, expanding significantly after a railway station opened in the mid nineteenth century. In both older seaside resort residences and modern cliffside apartments, a wine cooler is a practical addition for storing drinks at a steady temperature. These chillers rely on steady airflow around their casing to disperse the heat they extract from inside the cabinet. When a wine cooler stops holding its set temperature, the issue might be a failing compressor or a blocked ventilation path. Dual-zone models can develop a fault where one section fails to chill while the other continues working, which points to a problem with the internal fans or the temperature control board dividing the airflow. Condensation and misting on the glass door usually indicate a degraded door seal letting ambient room air mix with the chilled interior. Fan faults are another issue, where a seized motor prevents cold air from circulating evenly, leaving bottles at the top warmer than those at the bottom. We look at coolers not holding the set temperature, dual-zone models with one zone failing, condensation and misting on the door, alongside fan and control faults. Our domestic appliance repair service also covers washing machines, tumble dryers, dishwashers, fridges, freezers, electric ovens and electric hobs, though we do not work on gas cookers or any gas appliance.

Condensation and misting on the door usually happen when the magnetic rubber seal degrades or splits. This allows warmer room air to seep into the chilled cabinet. As the warm air hits the cold interior glass, moisture condenses into water droplets. Replacing the damaged door seal restores the airtight barrier and resolves the misting issue.

Dual-zone models use internal fans and baffles to separate the cabinet into two distinct temperature areas. If one zone is failing while the other works, the fault is likely a broken circulation fan or a malfunctioning temperature control board. This prevents the cold air from being directed into that specific compartment.

Coolers not holding the set temperature might be struggling with a blocked ventilation path, preventing the condenser coils from releasing heat. Alternatively, the compressor itself may be failing, or a faulty thermostat could be sending incorrect readings to the control board. We look at these fan and control faults during a repair visit.
